Hot-dip galvanized (HDG) cable trays are fabricated from mild steel and then immersed in molten zinc at 450°C, producing a metallurgical bond between zinc and steel. The resulting coating thickness of 85–100 microns provides the highest level of corrosion protection available in cable tray products.

- What is the zinc coating thickness for hot-dip galvanized cable trays?
- Our HDG cable trays achieve a minimum zinc coating of 85 microns (610 g/m²) as per IS 4759 and ISO 1461 standards. This provides a service life exceeding 25 years in industrial environments and 15+ years in severe coastal conditions.
- What is the difference between pre-galvanized and hot-dip galvanized trays?
- Pre-galvanized (electro-galvanized or mill-galvanized) uses a thinner 20–30 micron zinc coating applied before fabrication, so cut edges and weld points are unprotected. Hot-dip galvanizing is applied after fabrication, coating all surfaces including cut edges, welds and bolt holes with 85–100 microns of zinc.
- Can HDG cable trays be used in chemical environments?
- Yes, HDG trays perform well in mildly acidic and alkaline environments (pH 6–12). For strongly acidic environments (pH below 4), we recommend our FRP or stainless steel cable tray range which provides superior chemical resistance.
