Wire mesh (basket trays) are generally preferred for data centers because they allow 360° airflow around cables (critical for high-density fibre and copper runs), are easier to modify on-site, and allow easy cable routing without drilling. Perforated trays are better for under-floor power cable runs or areas requiring a solid bottom to prevent dust and debris falling onto equipment. Many data centers use a combination of both.
